Privacy — Your data is yours

Clara is built to be simple and private. By design, your goals, tasks, categories and settings remain on your device unless you explicitly export or share them. This page explains how data is stored and what happens when you export or share diagnostics.

Where your data is stored

All your personal content — goals, tasks, categories, recurrence settings, and local reminders — is stored on your device. Clara does not create an account or send this content to remote servers by default.

Exports & Local backups

Clara includes two export types for sharing or safekeeping your data:

  • Goal export (JSON): A structured JSON file that contains the goal and its tasks. Useful if you want to re-import or share data with another app.
  • Goal export (PDF): A paginated PDF designed to preserve the goal layout and avoid cutting content across pages.
  • Full local backup: Exports all categories, goals, tasks and reminders to a JSON file that you can save to Files or iCloud.

Restore behavior

Restoring a full backup will overwrite the app's current local data. Single-goal imports are added as new local goals; the importer will attempt to reuse categories (by UUID or by matching name) or create new categories if needed.

Privacy considerations

Backups and exports are created only when you initiate them. Once you share an exported file (for example via email or Files), that file is handled by the service you choose — we recommend only sharing with trusted recipients.

Diagnostics & Logs

Clara keeps a compact diagnostics log designed to help report technical issues. The diagnostics log is local to your device and does not include your goals or task content.

What the diagnostics log includes

When you share diagnostics

If you choose to share diagnostics for support:

  1. Open Settings → Diagnostics Log.
  2. Tap Share Diagnostics Log. The app creates a temporary copy and opens the system share sheet.
  3. Select Mail or another sharing destination and send the file to support — we recommend including your app version & a short description of the issue.

Share diagnostics from Settings → Diagnostics Log; the file remains on your device until you share it.

Notifications & Permissions

Clara uses local notifications to deliver reminders for global reminders, goal deadlines and task deadlines. The app will request permission to send notifications; you can change permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

Third parties & Sharing

Clara does not share your data with third-party analytics services by default. Files you export (backups, goal JSON, PDF or diagnostics logs) are handed to the OS share sheet and then to the app/service you select (Mail, Files, etc.).

If you choose to share a backup or diagnostics file, review it before sending. We recommend sharing diagnostics only with our support team and trusted recipients.

Delete or transfer your data

You can remove or overwrite local data in two ways:

If you are switching devices, export a local backup (Settings → Local Backup → Export), save it to iCloud/Files, transfer the file to the new device and restore it there.

Contact & Legal

If you have privacy questions or need help, contact support: SUPPORT_EMAIL

For legal requests (data subject requests, etc.), include the app version and the email address associated with your request. App version is available inside Clara: Settings → About.
